The OCTG News

Many thanks John - and best wishes Tim

After 18 years at the helm, John Bennett has stepped aside as the Group’s Chairman.

John’s decision to stand down, which he signposted last autumn, was confirmed at the Annual General Meeting - held in Oxford on Wednesday 2 April. Happily, he has agreed to serve as one of two vice-chairmen for the next 12 months, meaning that all his experience and knowledge will be retained for the good of the Group.

In a role reversal, Tim Fenn – who has been acting as John’s deputy – takes over as Chairman as the OCTG seeks to introduce a degree of succession planning.

Tim – whose election, along with that of long-serving Treasurer John Roper and V/C John Bennett was unanimously approved by those present at the AGM – is Managing Director of Benson-based Green Factory Limited and has been a Member of the Group for around 15 years.

A vote of thanks to John Bennett, for all the work he had undertaken on the Group’s behalf, was proposed by Paul Ravenhill (of S Hutchins & Green Limited, Oxford) and whole-heartedly endorsed by the meeting. Tim Fenn (pictured below) added his appreciation by saying: “John has been absolutely brilliant for the OCTG and has made a huge contribution to the Group’s growth and development.”

Tim is happy to serve as Chairman for 12 months but, like all the other Members present, believes a one-year term of office is the way forward. With that in mind, Member companies will be urged to nominate Vice-Chairman candidates in the next few weeks. One of those people will then serve as Tim’s deputy (with John Bennett on hand to offer advice and support) for a year before taking over as Chairman in April 2015.

“I have enjoyed doing the job and it has been a privilege to represent the Group on so many occasions, but it is time I moved on and time we freshened things up,” said John.

The AGM also decided that the Group’s successfully re-launched Apprentice of the Year Awards (held a few weeks ago, in early March) should now revert to its more traditional autumn date. That means we shall once again be looking for nominations in 2014 – for an event to be staged around mid-October.
