The Group was delighted – and rightly proud – to play a leading role when the City of Oxford College held their inaugural Awards Evening at the Blackbird Leys Campus.
Group Chairman John Bennett and Group Training Officer David Holbrook were among an audience pleased to pay tribute to students and apprentices – including Lewis Hopkins, of SYMM & Co - for all their hard work in 2013.
And not only did the OCTG sponsor three awards to leading apprentices – in Site Carpentry, Bench Joinery and Trowel Trades – but John also stepped forward as the evening’s Keynote Speaker.
“It is a pleasure joining you here in order to recognise the achievements of so many who represent our future,” John told the audience before going on to explain the Group’s role in the construction industry and then outlining the birth – and aims – of EcoBuilder, which is dedicated to developing a full suite of Qualifications in Sustainable Construction.
John’s key message, though, was one of praise. “We congratulate the finalists across the various trades and are both delighted and proud to be able to sponsor three Awards,” he said, adding that the Group would be holding its own Awards Evening in March 2014 to coincide with National Apprenticeship Week.
“There is no better time to be an apprentice,” John told the audience. “And there has not been a better time for employers to invest in apprentices. For this very reason, the Government, through the Sector Skills Council for the industry (CITB), have put apprenticeship training right at the top of their agenda.”
